We’re excited to share the ICM Annual Crisis Report 2025, now in its 36th edition. This year’s report looks at 1,232,103 crisis news items—an 8% increase over 2024, though still well below the 2023 high-water mark of nearly two million stories. Smoldering crises continued to dominate at 65% of the items tracked, while cybercrime surged to 25.44%, making it the single largest slice of the global crisis “pie.”
Inside, the report looks at 16 crisis categories—from catastrophes, class actions, and consumer activism to mismanagement, sexual harassment, whistleblowers, white collar crime, and workplace violence. It also highlights several surprising shifts, especially in class actions and sexual harassment, and reinforces one message we see again and again: failing to plan puts organizations at greater risk.
